Rody is the Chimou Star in Suikoden III.
Profile[]
Background[]
Rody is Estella's apprentice. According to her, Rody was formerly a water imp that attacked her, but she used her magic to transform him into his current state. Whether or not this is true is hard to tell due to Estella's habit of telling lies.
However, what can be said is that through her "training" Rody has a high affinity for various elemental magic, such as burying himself up to his neck in the ground to increase his affinity for earth magic, running around a field with his belly button out to increase his lightning magic, blowing on a bowl of soup until it got cold to increase his wind magic and dog-paddling 30 laps in the Budehuc Castle baths to increase his water magic.
He has considerable respect for his master, even going as far to say that she could fly circles around Crowley on a broom. Oddly enough, he seems to envy Wan Fu for his strength and wishes to be more like him.

Role in the Game[]
Talk to Estella in the Alma Kinan Village inn and agree to help her locate the village of Gordius. Then go to the ceremonial site in the back of the village and talk to the little girl there. Then talk to Estella again and she and Rody will join you.
Rody has 3 fixed skill slots and 5 free skill slots. The fixed skills he learns are Blinking Magic, Precision, and Magic Rationing (obtained at lv. 50).
Rody has peculiar physical skill proficiencies. He has a B+ in Swing and Holy Dash, and all other physical skills save Accuracy are rank B. His Accuracy is a terrible rank C, but it can be raised with the right equipment and title. To top it off, he gets rank S in Sword Magic, giving him a boost to his otherwise poor physical attack. However, he is limited to armor and headgear suited to mages, making him very fragile on the front lines. Still, it is an option that can be pursued should the player choose it.
Ultimately, Rody is best suited in a Mage role. He can use practically any magic rune he has a skill for well, but due to limited equipment availability, Wind Magic is his worst elemental magic.

If a player chooses to take physical attacker route, a Double Strike Rune, a Fury Rune or Gale Rune, and any Sword of Magic rune should work nicely for Rody, capitalizing on offense at the cost of his already meager defense.
Otherwise, any elemental rune will work well for him, especially any rare elemental rune. Also, a Blinking Rune could be used.
Description: He can perform in any role. He is told by his mentor that it's due to his training.

Don't you think my master is great? She'll be a real help! Soon I'd like to be half as skilled. Difficult...
My master said if I keep on doing Kenji's exercises, I'll be stronger. Won't you do it with me, Hugo?
My master said that I can improve Lightning Magic just by running around the field with my belly button out! Easy! Would you like to do it with me, Hugo?
Master taught me how to improve wind magic! You have to blow on a bowl of soup! The idea is to do it until the entire soup gets cold!
My master said if I kept on jumping forward in a squatting position for a week, I would gain strength! Let's do it together, Hugo!
He's an unfortunate boy. He trains with Estella in hope of becoming a first-rate magician, but some say he is only being tricked.
He trains every day. Sometimes it's hard to comprehend what's going on, but that's part of the training too. It must be tough.
He was recently partially buried with only his face exposed. He said this strengthens earth magic. I wonder if it's true.
He has a great talent for magic. I wonder if Estella can see this.
