- The Japanese name バトルフィッシュ (Batoru Fisshu) translates to "battle fish."
- Oanness is the name of an insect, but also the Greek name for the Apkallu. They are demi-gods, sometimes described as part man and part fish, and are associated with knowledge and wisdom.
- Some of the oldest sources refer to this enemy as さかなモンスター (Sakana Monsutaa) (which translates to fish monster), including one of the first guidebooks released for the game. However, all later sources, including the Genso Suikoden Encyclopaedia and Genso Suikoden Kiwami Daijiten refer to it as バトルフィッシュ (Batoru Fisshu).
