Dragon Horse Race Betting is a minigame in Suikoden V.
Description[]
Once Haleth arrived at Ceras Lake Castle, he took advantage of the Dragon Horses Racing around during their training to bet on them. By speaking to him (he is in the base of tower near Roog and Rahal), you can buy tickets and try to predict the order in which the Dragon Horses will finish their race. One can only bet for the race on the oval track.
How to bet[]
The backer first looks at the odds before the race. By evaluating and judging the Dragon Horses, he can estimate each one's chances in the upcoming race. There are different categories to evaluate the Dragon Horses, as well as special symbols and Haleth's comments to help the backer's choice. The reward is higher if the chances that a particular mount wins the race are low. Then he can buy tickets, which are of three different sorts.
The tickets[]
- The win ticket allows the backer to bet on the Dragon Horse he thinks will win the race. The prize can be a considerable amount of potch if the odds are high.
- The show ticket can be bought for a Dragon Horse the backer thinks will finish in the top three. The gains are not so interesting.
- The quinella ticket will bear two numbers which will designate those the backer thinks will finish first and second, but the order isn't taken into account.
Each ticket costs 100 potch and the backer can choose five different results for which he can buy up to ten tickets.
The types[]
- Average is a common description for a Dragon Horse that is neither outstandingly tough nor a good sprinter. But on the long run, it can be steady.
- Front runner is a Dragon Horse that has the habit of dashing out of the gate, but it might ruin its stamina quickly and then get overtaken. Sometimes, such mounts can also stay in front and win the race on their initial advance.
- Stretch runner qualifies a Dragon Horse that will keep its stamina to use it in the final portion of the race. It might be enough to win, but it might also be too late.
- Inconsistent runner designates a hard to predict Dragon Horse that can as well make a perfect run as stay behind all along.
