Clive is the Tensyo Star in Suikoden and Suikoden II.
Profile
Before the Gate Rune Wars
Feeling threatened, the existing Elders of the Howling Voice Guild rigged a duel between Kelley (their choice for Guild Master) and Elza (who had gained the acceptance of the Guild Master's sentient rifle, Storm, whereas Kelley had not). The two were pitted against each other with the Guild's sacred dual pistols, Star and Moon. The duel took place early in the morning, and Clive, who had spent the previous night with Elza, slept through it, unaware of what was transpiring. Clive later awoke to find Kelley dead, Elza missing, and the Elders telling him that one of his best friends was responsible for murdering the other. Swearing vengeance, Clive then set off with Storm with the intent of finding Elza and killing her for her betrayal.
Gate Rune Wars (Suikoden)
Clive's search for Elza leads him to the Scarlet Moon Empire. While searching for traces of Elza in Rikon, Clive encounters Tir, and decides to offer his services to the Liberation Army. During the war, Clive finds a grave in Rockland, but isn't fooled by the attempt to throw him off the trail.
Post Gate Rune Wars
By the time the war ended, Clive had already disappeared.
Dunan Unification War (Suikoden II)
Riou first encounters Elza in Muse, where she gives him Moon and Star in parcels temporarily. Riou then is accosted by Clive, but almost as quickly dismissed. When trying to leave Muse, Elza hails Riou to retake her parcels, then uses Riou as a shield to take a shot at Clive. Clive evades the shot then pursues Elza. Riou again encounters Clive in South Window, where Clive offers to join the New State Army if Riou can help him get to Lakewest. Riou accepts, and they travel west.
At Lakewest they find Elza has left Clive a letter at the Inn, taunting him to follow her to Forest Village. There in a clearing behind the village, Clive thinks he's finally caught up to her, only to find it's a stand in employed by Elza to be there. Clive picks up some more clues of Elza's location in Rockaxe castle when accompanying Riou there on a diplomatic mission. This leads them to Radat, where Clive confronts Elza. However, Storm refuses to fire and Clive is hit, and has to be taken to North Window Castle to be treated by Huan for his injuries.
Clive once again catches up to Elza at Jowston Hill in Muse, but Storm won't fire. He finally catches up with Elza and the two take part in a duel at Sajah, Elza's hometown. There, he learns the truth from Elza as she lays dying. The guns in Kelley and Elza's duel had been rigged, with Star loaded and Moon unloaded, and Kelley had been told by the Elders to take Star. Unwilling to become their puppet, he took Moon instead. His dying words to Elza were "I loved you and Clive." Similarly, Elza rigged the guns and chose Moon in her duel with Clive, seeking punishment for her crime. She dies in Clive's arms while telling him to return to the Guild, as it is "the only place for (him)" and become Storm's keeper.
Post Dunan Unification War
After the war, Clive goes on to become the new Master of the Howling Voice Guild. If he lost Elza's trail over the course of the war, he continues to search for her.
Role in the Game
He joins when spoken to when he appears at the Inn in Rikon. He appears there at random starting after events in Lorimar.
Clive is a strong rear line fighter, his gun Storm can do as much damage as some of the front line S type fighters, and his speed stat is exceptional. He is physical and magic defense are not great, so keep him in the back row. With a careful set-up, Clive can be a very versatile main fighter/support unit in combat.

Rear line physical runes are helpful. Due to his high speed stat and good backrow combat skills, Clive makes good use of the Spark Rune. A Killer Rune is also handy. Though magic isn't his forte, he can be competent as a back-up support spell caster with a Earth Rune or Water Rune.

"I'll beat anyone who gets in my way!"
"Damn! Until I find her..."
Talk to Clive in South Window once passage to Lakewest has been secured and he will join.
Clive is still a great rear line fighter, and he's still capable of being a good support unit. His speed stat and attack power are both excellent.

Clive is well suited to a Kite Rune. You can also still use a Spark Rune or Medicine Rune for support.

- Secret: #1
Name: Clive
Age: 27
From: Howling Voice Guild
Position: Archer
Note: In pursuit of a "woman".
- Secret: #2
"Looks like Clive is a member of something called the 'Howling Voice Guild' from Harmonia. They're a secret group that centers around the use of those 'Gun' things."
- Secret: #3
"A 'gun' is a tool made of steel, but that's not all. I hear that these guns have special 'souls' too....."
- Secret: #4
"People say that gun of his, Storm, has a soul of its own... What the hell
does that mean? Maybe it's got a True Rune embedded in it?""We can expect some harsh and accurate criticism from him. It's Clive!!!"
Howling Voice Hunter
Clive is featured in a series of events that are only available if accessed within a certain time limit after starting the game.
Event 1: Muse, after clearing the Sindar Ruins but before fleeing. Walk through the building underpasses on the east side of town to start then try to leave Muse to finish.
Event 2: Recruit Clive in South Window after being able to travel to Lakewest.
Event 3: Reach Lakewest in under 11 hours of playtime and speak to a man in the Inn.
Event 4: Reach Forest Village in under 13 hours and walk to the clearing behind the mayor's home.
Event 5: Take Clive with you on the first visit to Rockaxe. Before following Miklotov, go to the Inn in town. This event must be reached in under 14 hours of playtime.
Event 6: Before returning to the castle after events in Matilda, instead go to Radat (you'll still have Miklotov in your party/convoy), head to the Bar there for this scene, the time limit is 15 hours.
Event 7: After the siege of Rockaxe (Matilda), Muse will also be liberated. Go to Muse and then the Jowston Hill; the time limit is 18 hours.
Event 8: Before infiltrating L'Renouille castle, take Clive to Sajah Village for the final scene. This has to be done in under 20 hours.
Note: While it's perfectly possible to beat the game in under 20 hours, a simpler solution to be able to view all these scenes without skipping the rest of the game's content may be to use this Gameshark code to simply reset the game clock before trying to view each event if you're over the prescribed time limit.

Trivia
- In Suikoden, after the fall of Gregminster, take Clive to Rockland and inspect the Homeless woman's grave. It says "Last words of a Woman who died on the street" "Clive, forgive me for not dying at your hands." Clive will then say, "...It's a trick. You're trying to deceive me again woman. I swore I would find you. And I'll never give up until I do. So I can kill you with my own hands."
