In the Suikoden series, there are characters with last names, middle names and first name only. There are four types of names in the series.
- Names with Last Names and Middle Names.
- These are for characters/people that belongs to a certain rank within their country. They can be from a family with a long history or with aristocratic background. Some people/characters with last names got their last names for being worthy and some fake their last names.
- First Name Only.
- Characters without last names is a commoner but in certain circumstances a last name can be granted to a commoner, but it is depending on the rules of the nation and it is very rare.
- Commoners who gain a last names are Percival Fraulein and Humphrey Mintz.

- Elven Names
- This has a special design and their name is listed in order of:
- Individual Name + Mother's Name + Family Name + Clan Name

- These names have spaces or dots that separate sounds in their names, but it is in fact one name only. These names don't show any cultural background and etc.
- Ex. Long Chan Chan
